Honey collected from Sundarban Mangrove forests is famous for its herbal properties and aroma. This honey is produced by a wild bee called Apis dorsata. Many communities near the Sundarbans forests have chosen this honey collection as a means of their livelihood. These honey collectors or mauli collect this honey every year by March-April with the permission of the forest department into the deep forest of Sundarbans. A group of maulis of Hingalganj block associated with the Badaban Farmers Producer Company collects honey from the forests of the Sundarbans. BFPCL have its own honey processing unit inSamserganj of Hingalganj block of North 24 parganas district. After processing the honey is being bottled by the community members and sold through the Badabon harvest value chain.
